The Rangitīkei Environment Group
Working to protect our natural environment for the enjoyment of future generations.
Rangitīkei Environmental Group currently employs seven staff and is funded from several sources. We provide training and employment opportunities for people.
1. Pest Control
In New Zealand, 181 plant species are identified as pests. These are a problem for farmers, landowners, and protectors of native biodiversity as they have the potential to invade our natural areas.
2. Protecting the biodiversity of the Rangitīkei
Our environment is under threat, and we need all hands on deck to protect this beautiful place. We work with many other community groups to improve environmental outcomes across the Rangitīkei District.
3. Eradication and control of Old Man’s Beard
Old Man’s Beard is an invasive plant smothering New Zealand’s native bush and a serious threat to local flora and fauna. It grows high up in the forest canopy.
4. Environmental Restoration
We plant native trees across our district to help protect our waterways and to provide food for insects and birds. We want to maintain our natural spaces so young native plants can establish themselves and thrive.
